The Newcastle All Stars Steel Orchestra is a community band for young people between the ages of 10 to 21. It has high standards of musicianship and presentation with a busy programme of performances around the region.
The band were formed in 1996 & shortly won a £32,000 Arts Lottery Grant in 1996, for a minibus, trailer and instruments.
They have since performed at festivals across the North East & Cumbria, on BBC TV and Radio, The Great North Run, Fish Quay Festival, Sage Gateshead, Metro Arena in Newcastle, The Washington International Kite Festival, Newcastle / Durham University Boat Race, Gateshead Flower Festivals, St James’ Park …….etc etc.
The repertoire is self-arranged drawing upon pop, film scores, latin, reggae & calypso. The Music Director is Louise Brydon, a Clarinettist & Steel Panner who graduated from Northumbria University with a Performing Arts degree in 1996
The group rehearse every Monday during Term time at West Denton Association between 5.30pm & 7.30pm and are currently recruiting new members.
